Vison, Mission, Goal

Our Vision

We envision a future where all women can make decisions regarding their family life, education, and work; move freely; and practice any religion—or none at all.

We believe in a future where any form of violence against women, as well as against all people, is prosecuted by law, condemned by spiritual leaders and society as a whole, and never justified by tradition.

We believe in a future where anyone facing a difficult situation can seek and receive the support they need.

We see our team, in three years, as an independent and autonomous organization with a wide support network both within Russia and internationally. Our organization will be resilient yet flexible, capable of adapting to changing conditions without losing sight of its core mission.

We will have an effective system of strategic governance and management that not only addresses planning tasks but also ensures sustainable resources for our programs. This system will coordinate the efforts of all our staff and volunteers, fostering synergy and efficiency at every level of the organization.

We recognize that leadership change is an inevitable and healthy process and are building structures that will allow us to maintain stability and continue our mission regardless of team transitions.

We remain steadfast in our ethical principles, which form the foundation of our work.

This vision serves as our internal “roadmap,” guiding all our actions and decisions over the next three years.

Our Mission

We protect and support women from traditional Caucasian families, regardless of where they live. Our support includes counseling, education, and, when necessary, evacuation. We aim to create an environment of absolute intolerance toward violence against women through public campaigns and awareness initiatives.

We act as swiftly as possible, always respecting each woman’s right to anonymity and individual choice.

Our Goals

Women’s rights are systematically violated at the state level across the Russian Federation, and in the North Caucasus, this issue is exacerbated by regional particularities. Behind these violations lie shattered lives, broken dreams, and lost opportunities. Many of our sisters, daughters, and mothers live under conditions that restrict their basic rights and freedoms. They may be denied the right to education, to marry a partner of their choice, to work, or even to leave their homes.

We understand that the situation varies across the republics of the North Caucasus. We are not fighting against traditions or religion. Instead, we want traditions and religion to protect women, not harm them.

Domestic violence is a problem the state fails to address. Human rights defenders are doing everything possible to change this reality, but their resources are limited, and the risks are immense. We can no longer remain silent and watch as the lives and ambitions of women in this region are extinguished. It is time for decisive action at all levels—from government structures to each of us as individuals.

Our mission is not only to protect but also to restore women’s dignity, freedom, and control over their own lives.

Over the past three years, “Marem” has provided legal and psychological assistance to hundreds of women. For those in critical situations, we have facilitated evacuation. In addition to effectively supporting women experiencing domestic violence, we also aim to drive systemic change in public opinion and state policy.
